På en solskinsdag i maj måned, tog Freja og jeg på tur med et kamera i hånden, en warbonnet på hovedet og lidt “krigsmaling” i ansigtet på en indianer fotoshooting. Markerne var gule og bladene lige sprunget ud, så skoven var helt lysegrøn og meget smuk. I de gule rapsmarker og de omkringliggende marker som på det tidspunkt var fyldt med fløjlsbløde hvide mælkebøtter, fik vi taget en masse flotte fotos. Hvad betød fjerene for indianere?
Ifølge prærieindianerne havde fuglearter hver deres karaktertræk, og de kunne overføres til mennesker via fjer. En ung indianer kunne ikke blot samle fjer op fra jorden og sætte dem i håret. Ligesom europæernes medaljer blev fjer tildelt af andre som belønning for særlige præstationer.
